A seafarer at some point of his/her career might look for a shore job and sometimes the decisions are spontaneous while in the most cases the reasons might be different like what we discussed in a previous Forum. But whenever he/she wants to make a change there are certain disadvantages that might trouble them:
1. The insular life at the ships and the lack of proper social exposure of the seafarers tend to create a wrong impression in the minds of the potential employers at shore, specially concerning their attitude and outlook.
2. Sometimes the experiences gathered in the sea can be perceived as sometime very focused or narrow when compared to the applicability in the shore jobs.
3. The senior officers applying for shore jobs might be perceived as someone who cannot have a proper relationship with the authorities at his/her shore job.
