More often than not, as senior officers onboard we have to deal with the duplicitous nature of the Cargo & Bunker surveyors coming onboard our Merchant ships.
Say for example in case of an on-hire survey the surveyor will be hell bent to reduce the extra fuel and will try to match it as much as to the log book figure, while in the off-hire the story is upside down. Similarly, the cargo surveyors, for example in a bulk carrier are hell bent to decrease the value of ships’ constant while loading and will not mind a bit to jeopardise ship’s safety.
Though the Masters and Chief Engineers try their best to ward off such threats but often they get trapped. So how the ship staff should safeguard its’s interest in such a hostile commercial environment.
