TOPIC: Why, this misfortune for Indo & Pak Seafarers?

Why, this misfortune for Indo & Pak Seafarers? 26 May 2012 06:40 #3841

Indian and pakistani governments should allow their seafarers to go to shore leave in each other's countries.
We are children of a common mother and every thing is same among us like language, food, culture, ethics and offcourse our looks. Then why is such animosity on the shoulders of their poor hardworking seafarers, who just mean to go out to make a phone call and to have a decent food for a change.Indian and Pakistani seafarers should unite and raise this agenda on the social networks atleast to make it heard by the governments loudly.

Once I sailed with me a chief mate from Pakistan who later became a good friend of mine, told me a bizarre story happened with him.

He was transferred from a ship calling Indian port of Vishakhapatnam , as there somebody (must have been from Authorities) has objected with charterer for the presence of this pakistani gentleman officer and that protest reached to the managers and finally he got transferred to my ship(to the good luck of him this ship was then trading in South americas..,Wow).

Till then we were knowing that pakistani crew member will not get shore leave in India. But then it was evident that the Indian authorities will not even let them in Indian port calling ships,...Amazing.

I would like to ask our countrymen that if a terrorist would have to come from Pakistan to attack. He would definitely not come disguised as a ship crew member, because our shoreline is Quite porous to anyone to land in India and attack as Ajmal kasab & Co. had done in Mumbai.(Sending men in the form of seafarer would be very costly and tricky affair and they would have to hire James bond for the job)

A seafarer happen to be one of the most documented Professional in today's world, with tens of certificates and licenses and having his whole whereabout and professional history verified by numerous agencies from time to time.

It is ridiculous if we only talk big about human rights and deprive a common, hard working seafarer of his right of Shore leave.

Yeah that is a big mishap and a kind of unfortune for pakistan and indian sea farers. once my friend was to india, this story he told me himself he is from indonesia. he went to india from pakistan that is from karachi to mumbai, he had about 15000 pakistani rupees. and same the other crew also have because they changed money 4 shopping in karachi, in mumbai i dnt knw how the police guards knew about pakistani money, some of the guards came onboard and started searching. they found about 90000 pakistani rupees and burnt all of them to ashes on the deck,
this much hatered for each other? why?
this is only because of the wrong foundations laid by our former leaders. if pakistani and indian seafarers combine for the cause, sure they will get a positive out put.

I have been in the agency biz for quite sometime and have seen this happen in Pakistani ports where Indians are not allowed go shore and the same happens in India. This is totally ridiculous the people who should be barred entry from each others country gets the VIP protocol as they are the ones creating this mess.

Let's hope that the new dialogues between the two countries ends this barrier.
