LNG tanker hit by three shots in pirate attack off Oman

In the early morning of June 20, 2012, the "LNG Aries" was attacked off the coast of Oman, Pirates fired several shots at the high explosive ship in position 20 50N 059 30E. A boat with five or six pirates closed in on 50 metres and attacked the tanker, in spite of winds of 7 bf and more. Three of the shots hit. No one was injured, but due to the bad weather conditions it has not yet been possible to examine the ship for damage. The ship continued its scheduled voyage from Port Said to Suez. ETA June 25. There were no armed guards on board the LNG ship but the ship is equipped with other forms of anti-piracy equipment, including barbed wires.
